The Australian Women's Volleyball team is known as the Volleyroos. Volley coming from volleyball and roos coming from kangaroo, Australia's national animal. The Volleyroos competed in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney as the host team. They haven't played in an Olympics since, but compete in other international competitions in Asia.

The Australian teams also compete in FIVB competitions every year. They participate in the: FIVB World League, the World Championship AVC Qualification Tournament, the FIVB Women's World Grand Prix, and the Australian Volleyball League. The Volleyroos are ranked 41st in the world. In the 2000 Sydney Olympics, they placed 9th and achieved the world ranking of 14th. At the 2001 Asian Championships, they got 6th.
